Back To School Night!

Back to School Night is coming up next week on Thursday, September 6th 

 

  • We will start in the auditorium at 5PM for a staff introduction and school overview with the principal
  • We will have two sessions to allow families with multiple children to attend all sessions needed
  • Session 1  5:30PM-6:15PM
  • Session 2  6:20PM-7:00PM

*Dismissal on Thursday September 6th

 

Grades 1-5 2:30PM

Kinder remains on current schedule

 

 

Important Kindergarten Information

In order to give all Kindergarten students an opportunity to eat lunch at school, the following changes were made to the schedule.

TK/Kindergarten 2018-19 Schedule

 

  • 9:00AM-1:00PM (August 29-September 14)
  • Staggered Schedule (15:1 ratio) begins September 17
  • Early Start 9:00AM-1:00PM* (indicates change)
  • Late Start  10:40AM-2:40PM
  • Lunch for all Kindergarten students 11:20AM-12:00PM* (indicates change)
  • Fridays 9:00AM-2:40PM  (Early/Late Kindergarten)

 

 

 

 

Message from Principal

Dear Henry Families,

 

As you are enjoying the last couple of weeks of summer, I am looking forward to our new school year together! 

 

I would like to extend a special welcome to all of our new families joining Henry this year and welcome back all of our returning families as well. At Henry our goal is to work together to provide our students with a rich learning environment.  In a collaborative effort, we want our students to thrive in all ways possible.  As a community of learners we strive to nurture a learning environment that is positive, safe, caring, and supports diverse learning styles. 

 

As we begin another school year at Henry, we would like to make you aware of our upcoming events to help you support your child's education.  I encourage you and your family to calendar the following important dates. 

  • Our office will reopen on Monday, August 20th, 7:30AM-4:00PM through 8/28 
  • Office hours will return to regular schedule on 8/29 8:00AM-4:30PM 
  • Class Placements available on ParentVue on Friday, August 24th 5:00PM
  • Kindergarten Orientation (Parents/Students) Monday, August 27th 5:00-6:30PM
  • First Day of School Wednesday, August 29th (Minimum Day: Grades 1-5 9:00AM- 2:00PM)
  • All TK/Kindergarten AM/PM will follow the 9:00AM-1:00PM schedule through 8/29-9/14
  • Labor Day Holiday Monday, September 3rd
  • Back to School Night:  Thursday, September 6th, 5:00PM in the auditorium

In an effort to conserve paper, Henry Elementary will not be sending home a parent handbook. We will post the parent handbook on our website, a copy will be available in the office if you should need one.  You will be able to read with your child all about each school policy and other important information at your convenience.  If ever you have questions about the website, please call the school.  We are happy to help answer any questions. 

 

Enjoy the last few weeks of your summer break.  I look forward to another successful year at Henry Elementary and working together to support our learning community.

Science Night

Science Night is this Thursday, April 26th at 5:00-6:50PM

 

Science Night is a fun night to come together as a community.

 

We have a lot of fun science planned: slime, robots, reptiles, games, hands-on activities, bubbles, art, student work, and much more PLUS a surprise guest. 

 

We are in need of volunteers to help with the science booths.  We currently have 2 volunteers and need 16 volunteers to help with the booths.  If you are interested in helping, please visit our PTA website via our school website.

With Halloween almost here, the Long Beach Press-Telegram is again launching its Scary Stories contest for Long Beach area youth. Winning entries – both stories and artwork – will be published in the Press-Telegram on Halloween. The rules are the same as last year.  There will be three age categories for stories and drawings: elementary school (K-5), middle school (grades 6-8), and high school (grades 9-12).
 

Here are the rules:

• The deadline is Monday, Oct. 15.

• All entries must be emailed, with the entrant’s name and grade, and the subject line “Scary Stories,” to: ptnews@presstelegram. Stories can be submitted in the body of the email, or as a Word attachment; drawings should be submitted in JPEG format, no larger than 5MB in size.

• Stories must be no longer than 650 words.

• Artwork must be original (no tracings).

• Entries will be judged based on imagination, creativity and theme.

• The winning entries will be published in the Press-Telegram on Oct. 31, and posted online at www.presstelegram.com/.
